The club has prioritized Gyokeres as their main striker target over Benjamin Sesko. It is reported that Gyokeres has been solely interested in moving to north London, even though there was interest from Manchester United. Arsenal and Sporting have reached an agreement in principle for a deal valued at €73.5 million, but discussions have been ongoing due to a dispute over the add-on structure. These negotiations are now close to being finalized. A breakthrough reportedly occurred in the last 24 hours, leaving only minor details to be resolved. Arsenal aims to conclude the deal in the coming days, which would allow Gyokeres to join the team’s pre-season training camp in Singapore.

Arsenal are reportedly close to finalizing an agreement to acquire Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, as revealed by David Ornstein. Mikel Arteta’s team has been in negotiations with Sporting for several weeks, and it seems they have finally made significant progress. Ornstein from The Athletic reported that Arsenal is now finalizing the details of the transfer, with Gyokeres anticipated to make his move to north London soon. The Swedish international is set to join the Gunners for an initial fee of €63.5 million, with an additional €10 million in potential add-ons, having agreed to a five-year contract with the club.

Arsenal had also been chasing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but reports suggest that the German’s club refusal to lower their asking price for the Slovenian forced the Gunners to move on. The north London club’s new Sporting Director Andrea Berta has been known to be an admirer of Gyökeres for some time. Th Sweden international was signed by Sporting from Championship side Coventry in 2023 for €24m, and has been ridiculously prolific in both of his seasons in Portugal. He now has a market value of €75m, and no player in Europe’s top-10 leagues has scored more goals than Gyökeres since he joined Sporting. According to The Athletic, Arsenal and Sporting are on the verge of a total agreement for the transfer of the Swede,  with personal terms already agreed with the player on a five-year deal. The fee now agreed in principle is for an initial €63.5m plus a further €10m in add-ons.
